Miscellaneous Collection

As a result of the 1948 nationalisation and dissolution of the religious orders, based on a directive of the central leadership, many collections from former schools, monasteries and personal collections as well (the Franciscan Monastery from Călugăreni, Unitarian Gymnasium from Cristuru Secuiesc, Calvinist College from Sighetu Marmației, the library of the Catholic Gymnasium from Târgu-Mureș, several collections of individuals and castles)have been transferred to the Teleki Library from Târgu-Mureș. This is how the miscellaneous collection of the Teleki Library was created, with about 9,000 volumes.

Next to the monastery from Șumuleu Ciuc, the Franciscan Monastery of Călugăreni had the second most important library in Transylvania. The friars living here, had missionary and teaching tasks, due to the isolation of the area these friars provided medical, educational and legal assistance to the locals, thus their collection did not only contain religious books, but also many secular works as well.
